Notes on fitting a bass beak and pipe. |
|
The Aulos beak fits 12mm tube and has an internal O-ring seal. |
|
| |
This beak is fitted to the head with a short length of 12mm. copper tube. (This is not easy to source.)
| |
The tube fitted to this beak tapers from 12mm. to approx. 11mm. It was part of a felt tip marker pen.
This is an effective way to fit an Aulos beak to any side entry bass recorder head. The end of the pipe may be bound with plumbers' tape, dental floss, thread, or even sticky tape to make it up to the thickness needed. (With care the tube could even be reduced in diameter using a hot air gun.) If you order an Aulos beak I could send a suitable (free) 'dead' marker pen with it.

Here is a complete pipe and beak assembly I made for an old German bass. The tube (10mm.) came from a model shop and the 90o elbows from a builders' merchant. |
